This should be interesting

At first, when I saw the title, I thought to myself...."This should be interesting!" Outside of fiction I have done very little work reviewing non-fiction novels. Once I opened the book and I realized that it actually was a list of questions, I knew I had to take a more practical approach to reviewing it.

I decided to use this book along with my boyfriend as a way of evaluating or re-evaluating our personality traits and our relationship. Some of the sections that we both enjoyed taking were the favourites, love, hobbies and friends. We turned one section in particular, favourites, into a game show. Guess who got all of the answers correct?

I thought that Vikram channels the skill of a couples therapist with the type of questions that he posses and it's hard to believe that these questions were developed from his personal experience. It kind of makes you wonder what type of experiences he had in the first place. On the one hand, I think that the book is geared towards people who are just starting out in their relationships. Some of the questions that were present were some that you should really ask the man/woman you are dating. Like for example, which television series do you love watching - even reruns of? On the other hand, it would seem weird to ask the person that you're just starting a relationship with how frequently they checked their bank account or whether they are good at managing money. So I also believe that those types of questions, which were prominent in the book, are best answered by couples who have been in a relationship for more than a year. More importantly, anyone who's in a relationship should read this book and ask their significant others these questions. You may just be surprised by the answers that you get.

Standard questions you should already have the answer to!

If you don't have most of these answers already, you relationship might be in trouble. These are just basic questions like: Are you addicted to alcohol? Did you ever want to write a book? Are you addicted to anything?

These are basic questions that any relationship with good communication would already have the answer to. I suggest reading the sample before buying, so you see if you are just wasting your money or not.

This book repeats questions. The cover doesn't make any sense. It doesn't seem to have been edited very well. The good thing is the questions are grouped according to topics. Some topics lack depth, where as other questions are so thorough it is exhausting to read, let alone talk about.

About the Author
Roger Trigg is Professor of Philosophy at the University of Warwick. Shopping information way out of date

I'm generally a big fan of the Top 10 series. And there are many things to like about this book.

BUT: This afternoon it sent me on a major wild goose chase. I went to three places where the book promised great shopping experiences. I took one subway ride and did a lot of walking. All three places, IN A ROW, were out of business. One of them, I later discovered, had gone out of business several years before. I was using the 2016 edition in May of 2016. This is inexcusable.

Wonderful Edition

This is a wonderful edition of Herodotus. The translation is easy without being trivial and the notes are helpful and many rather than abstruse and frequently questionable. I enjoyed every page.

Kindle Edition is a Headache

Herodotus' Histories is a great look into not only the history of the time, but most especially the culture and James Romm does an excellent job in translating it.

That being said, do NOT get the Kindle Edition. The formatting is terrible, the table of contents does not link to the separate books and the search function is not even enabled. Considering the complexity of this work using the kindle edition will cause you a lot of grief, especially if you need this for a college class.

There was also an issue of skipping to completely different sections of the book when scrolling with the mouse wheel (reading on computer) instead of clicking the on screen buttons. I'm not sure if this is an issue with read.amazon or the book itself.

About the Author

Exciting from Start to Finish!

I really enjoyed this book. Dougal Lachlin, a famous author of true crime books, returns to his hometown of Twisted Pines, Oregon, to research a possible new book based on anonymous emails he has received. There he reconnects with his estranged sister, Jamie, who is about to marry his high school friend, Kyle, very much to Dougal's opposition. Kyle was previously married to Daisy, also a high school friend of Dougal's, and Dougal knows that Kyle is not the faithful type. He also reconnects with his old friend, Wade, now the local Sheriff, and kindles a friendship with Charlotte, Daisy's younger sister. Dougal is a complicated character - he still harbors resentment and some shame for growing up in a trailer on the "wrong side of town" and still feels his high school friends, all of a higher socio-economic standing, somehow looked down on him for it. He also grew up under the shadow of a father who left when he was very young and who later went to prison for murder. All the characters are very well-developed and the writing style is crisp. I also enjoyed the detailed descriptions of Oregon - I could almost smell the ocean and the pine forests. I am looking forward to reading the next books in this series. However, that doesn't mean this is a cliff-hanger that leaves loose ends - this is a well-detailed stand-alone book!

Disappointing Ending

This could have been a great book. In fact everything but the last five pages is pretty good. It has an intriguing mystery, a nice romance, and a decent side story. However, in the last five pages of the book instead of showing how the main character solves the murder, he flies home and the answer is promptly handed to him, then the book abruptly ends. I'm assuming the author is planning to make this a series and we will get a follow up to what happens to the characters in the next book, but it was such a poorly written cliff-hanger out of no where, with no development that I don't know if I could bring myself to read the follow up book.

An outstanding debut!

Thirty years ago the coastal town of Twisted Cedar was devastated by the deaths of two librarians. The murders were never solved, but they are about to be dug again when true crime writer Dougal Lachlan starts receiving clues about the murders. Pursuing this lead will mean travelling to Twisted Cedar and seeing his sister, Jaime, who is about to marry a man he can't stand. Meanwhile librarian, Charlotte Hammond, sure enjoys a mystery. When Dougal walks into the library asking for help, she can't refuse. Together will the two of them be able to solve this cold case?

I found the first book in the Twisted Cedar Mystery series an absolute delight. The tortured soul that is Dougal Lachlan had me tripping over myself wanting to help him solve this case. Thankfully librarian turned amateur sleuth is there to help him.

I really enjoyed the mystery. It involves the library and the librarians, and is a tangled web of intrigue that shifts from modern day to thirty years ago. I was kept on the edge of my seat waiting to see how it would all play out.

CJ Carmichael is a season author of more than 25 romance novels, and this shows in A Buried Tale. She has written a fluid, easy to fall into mystery and I'm really hoping there will be more books in this series. The first installment in the Twisted Cedar Mysteries was a great read and I can't wait for more.

Design concepts & terminology bargain

I purchased a "like new" copy of this book for cheap. I've been volunteering for Habitat, and this text introduces the terminology that describes many of the new (to me) architectural concepts that I've confronted in our new construction, and illustrates alternative designs that may be used in more formidable projects. This book predates the newer 10th edition (revised for ADA), which is required material at our community college for an architecture course. I'm an experienced 2D CAD draftsman, and the numerous elaborate drawings in the book are of huge benefit. This text represents a wealth of knowledge for a residential neo-builder like me. An absolute bargain in the used book marketplace.

This is a newer addition of a book on residential architecture. It contains a wealth of information about residential design and construction practices. Wonderful addition to any architectural library.

It's a good book, but

Published a few years ago. There was no way of knowing the date of publication before ordering it.
The biggest flaw in buying books on line is the date of publication is always hidden.
